I really like all of your photos here, Judy — and I espec. like the dazzling photo of the red-headed woodpecker. The sun on his red hood is exquisite. That’s a bird we don’t get in the western U.S.
There’s not a lot of them in the Atlantic coastal states. Their population has declined by over 70% throughout their range since 1966, according to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. There is one state park in Virginia, however, that has a grove of trees on an old plantation property, where they are commonly seen. I must have seen a dozen of them sitting in one spot in the park.

Thanks, Mike. I was in a beautiful spot in the Shenandoah Valley. It was easy to rest in the silence in that setting!
